Liverpool and Newcastle in Guehi Transfer Battle

Liverpool and Newcastle United are set to go head-to-head in the transfer market as they both eye up a move for Chelsea defender Marc Guehi. The 20-year-old centre-back has been impressing on loan at Swansea City this season, leading to interest from a number of Premier League clubs. According to reports, both Liverpool and Newcastle are keen on signing Guehi, who has made 28 appearances for the Swans this term. The young defender has been a key player for Steve Cooper‘s side, helping them secure a place in the Championship play-offs. Guehi‘s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool and Newcastle both keeping tabs on the Chelsea starlet. The Magpies are believed to be in pole position to sign the defender, with Steve Bruce keen to bolster his defensive options ahead of next season. However, Liverpool are also in the running, with Jurgen Klopp looking to strengthen his squad for the 2020/21 campaign. The Reds have been linked with a number of centre-backs in recent months, including Dayot Upamecano and Kalidou Koulibaly. But Guehi could be a more affordable option for Klopp, with Chelsea reportedly willing to sell the defender for £25million. The Blues are believed to be open to selling Guehi in order to raise funds for their own summer transfer plans. Chelsea are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, with the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech already signed up. And Guehi could be one of the players to make way, with Liverpool and Newcastle set to battle it out for his signature. Read more about Liverpool and Newcastle‘s interest in Guehi here.
