LIVE Transfer Talk: Chelsea to use Lukaku to help get Osimhen

Transfer Talk: Chelsea’s Victor Osimhen pursuit may benefit from Romelu Lukaku’s arrival

Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could gain momentum with the Blues’ recent signing of Romelu Lukaku. The 28-year-old Belgian international has returned to Stamford Bridge for a reported £97.5m, bringing Premier League experience and a strong goal-scoring record.

Osimhen, 22, is one of the most sought-after young strikers in Europe, having impressed with his performances for both club and country. His pace, power, and clinical finishing ability have drawn comparisons to Lukaku’s own playing style.

The Nigerian international has been linked with several top clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur. Napoli are understood to be willing to listen to offers for Osimhen, who has a release clause in his contract worth €50m.

Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen predates Lukaku’s return to the club, but the arrival of the former Inter Milan striker could prove a catalyst in negotiations with Napoli. The Blues may believe that Lukaku and Osimhen can form a potent strike partnership, with the experienced Belgian international able to provide guidance and support to his younger teammate.

The signing of Lukaku has already sparked speculation about the futures of Chelsea’s existing strikers, including Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud. While neither player is guaranteed to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, the arrival of a new striking option could lead to increased competition for places in Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market this summer, also signing Marcus Rao and Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid. The Blues are likely to continue strengthening their squad ahead of the 2022-23 Premier League season.
