Manchester City 2-3 AC Milan: Three things we learned - Fonseca-ball in full flow

Manchester City’s pre-season preparations took a hit as they suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at the hands of AC Milan. The game, played behind closed doors, saw Pep Guardiola’s men take an early lead through Sergio Agüero but two quick-fire goals from Milan’s Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Jens Petter Hauge turned the tables. Despite a late comeback, City were unable to find the equalizer as they fell short against their Serie A opponents.

Here are three things we learned from the game:

1. Manchester City’s defense still has some work to do: Despite the addition of Ruben Dias and Nathan Aké, City’s backline continues to be a concern. The pair struggled to contain Milan’s pacey attackers, with the Italian side causing them problems throughout.
2. Phil Foden is ready for the big stage: The young Englishman has been touted as one of the Premier League’s most exciting prospects and he showed why against Milan. His pace and skill caused the opposition defenders all sorts of problems and he was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
3. Manchester City still need to find their rhythm: Despite the loss, Guardiola will be pleased with some aspects of his side’s performance. However, they are still finding their feet after a lengthy break and it may take some time for them to hit top gear.
