Ousted 'Mandalorian' Actor Emotional Over Latest Development In Disney Lawsuit

Gina Carano, the actress who played Cara Dune in Disney’s hit series ‘The Mandalorian,’ has had her motion to dismiss a lawsuit against her denied by a California court. The suit was filed by her former agent, Jeff Kwatinetz, and his company, KW Productions LLC, over allegations that Carano breached their contract when she left the agency. In the complaint, Kwatinetz claimed that he was entitled to a commission based on Carano’s work on ‘The Mandalorian’ after she fired him as her agent in 2020. According to court documents, Carano argued that the suit should be dismissed because Kwatinetz didn’t meet the statute of limitations for filing the complaint and because she was free to hire new representation without being bound by any non-compete clauses in her contract with Kwatinetz’s agency. However, the judge denied Carano’s motion, ruling that the lawsuit can proceed. A trial date has not been set yet. This development comes after a tumultuous period for Carano, who faced backlash and eventual firing from ‘The Mandalorian’ in 2021 over controversial social media posts. The actress apologized for her comments, which some deemed to be offensive and insensitive. Since then, she has sought to reboot her career with new projects, including a movie role and a podcast.
