'A Complete Unknown' director discusses first meeting Bob Dylan

Director James Mangold has shared the story of his first conversation with music legend Bob Dylan. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mangold revealed that he had been a huge fan of Dylan’s work for years and was thrilled to finally meet him on the set of the 2007 film ‘I’m Not There’, in which Dylan made a cameo appearance. According to Mangold, his first conversation with Dylan was about the legendary musician’s views on the concept of fame. ‘He said, ‘Fame is just a temporary distraction from the real work, which is making music,’ Mangold recalled. ‘And I think that’s really beautiful, because it shows how humble he is.’ Despite being one of the most iconic figures in popular culture, Dylan has always maintained a low-key profile and has rarely given interviews or spoken publicly about his life and career. Mangold praised Dylan for his humility and dedication to his craft, saying: ‘He’s just a complete unknown, even to people who have seen him hundreds of times.’ The director also shared stories about working with Dylan on the set of ‘I’m Not There’, revealing that the musician was always focused on getting the take right and wasn’t interested in indulging in any kind of celebrity behavior. Mangold summed up his experience working with Dylan by saying: ‘He’s just a great, great guy.’
