‘The Fabulous Four’ Review: Bette Midler Leads A Quartet Of Beloved Veteran Female Stars Who Deliver A Geriatric ‘Bridesmaids’

Despite the star power of its four leading ladies, The Fabulous Four feels more like a tired retread than a fresh take on the comedy genre. With a premise that sounds like it was ripped from the pages of a 1990s sitcom, the film follows four friends in their 40s who start a group chat and find themselves getting into all sorts of wacky misadventures.

Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Candice Bergen, and Rhea Perlman are all veterans of television and film, and they’ve each had their share of hits over the years. But despite their collective talent, The Fabulous Four is a disappointment. The script feels like it was written by a committee, with jokes that fall flat and characters that are paper-thin.

The movie’s biggest problem is that it tries too hard to be funny. The ladies of The Fabulous Four are all trying to outdo each other in the comedy department, but their efforts come across as forced and artificial. There are a few chuckles here and there, but they’re not enough to make up for the overall lack of laughs.

But even if The Fabulous Four was funnier, its problems would still be deep-seated. The movie’s attempts at heartwarming sentimentality feel like a desperate attempt to get audiences invested in the characters, but it all feels too little, too late. By the time the credits roll, viewers are left feeling like they’ve wasted their time on a film that never quite gets its footing.

In short, The Fabulous Four is a disappointment. With a cast as talented as this, you’d expect something more, but unfortunately, this film falls flat.
