Band Statement

Godspeed You! Black Emperor released a statement regarding the new album, saying, “This, despite the unrelenting fetishization of a band that refuses to perform live or be photographed, is the band’s first personnel change in its 25 years of existence. This, motherfuckers, is a band, again, tender threads of which connect through these recordings to an actual and true core made of the following people – Mauro Pezzente (bass) who has remained steadfastly in anticipation of the return of he who shall never be spoken, Thierry Amar (double bass, bass and transverse flute and trumpet and vocalizations) and David Bryant (guitar, trumpet, rearranged guitars, picked guitars and miscellaneous electronics) and Aidan Girt Drury (drums) and Tim Hecker (electronic guitar, overstated finales) who in turn is occasionally augmented by those heady supermusicians and noisemakers from afar, both transmogrified and crystal-clear in beauty: two fellow travelers since 2000, the singular Sophie Trudeau (violin, drums, vibes, saw and wooden flute and trumpet and cello) and Timothy Herzog (drums), the latter being the musician to whom the band dedicated its previous, and somewhat impenetrable, 2015 springtime 40-minute brain hemorrhage of an EP, ‘Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress‘.
