Chelsea Sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in £20.7m Transfer

Chelsea has completed the signing of Danish defender Filip Jørgensen from Villarreal, both clubs announced on Wednesday. The 25-year-old center-back signed a five-year contract with the Blues, who were reportedly willing to spend big to strengthen their defense this summer.

Jørgensen moves to Chelsea for a reported fee in the region of £10 million (around $13 million), having played for Villarreal’s B team and making 14 appearances for the first team. He will join up with his new teammates in preseason training, allowing him to get acclimated to the Premier League.

The Danish international has been capped at every youth level for Denmark, but has yet to make a senior appearance for the national team. His versatility and ability to play as both a center-back and right-back made him an attractive option for Chelsea.

Chelsea’s signing of Jørgensen is part of their efforts to bolster their defense following the departure of David Luiz in the summer transfer window. The club has also been linked with other targets, including RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

In a statement on Villarreal’s website, the club said: ‘Villarreal CF thanks Filip Jørgensen for his work and dedication to our project. We wish him all the best in this new stage of his career.’
