Chuck D and Joe Budden lead tributes to rapper Chino XL

Chino XL, a rapper and close friend of Tupac Shakur, has died at the age of 54. The news was confirmed by his family on social media, sparking an outpouring of tributes from the music industry and fans worldwide.

Born Ernest Ruben Jr., Chino XL rose to fame in the early 1990s as part of the West Coast hip-hop scene, releasing several albums including ‘Here to Save You’ and ‘I Told You So’. His lyrics often focused on social issues, politics, and personal struggles, earning him a reputation as one of the most authentic voices in the genre.

Tupac Shakur, whose real name was Lesane Parish Crooks, was a key figure in Chino XL’s early career. The two rappers collaborated on several tracks, including ‘Get Out’ from Tupac’s iconic album ‘All Eyez on Me’. Their friendship and musical partnership were marked by a series of intense beefs with other artists, particularly Joe Budden.

Chino XL was also known for his work as an actor, appearing in films such as ‘Poetic Justice’ alongside Tupac and Janet Jackson. His music continued to gain popularity over the years, inspiring new generations of rappers and fans.
