Robert Downey Jr. would reportedly only return to the MCU on one, major condition

After months of speculation and rumors, it seems like Robert Downey Jr. is finally returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to a new report, Downey Jr. is in talks to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the upcoming Doctor Doom movie, but only if the Russo brothers are involved behind the camera.

The news comes from Variety, which claims that Marvel Studios has been trying to get Downey Jr. on board for some time now. The actor’s representatives have allegedly requested the involvement of Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, respectively.

It’s unclear what exactly Downey Jr.’s role would be in Doctor Doom, but fans are speculating that he might appear as a mentor or guide for the film’s protagonist. Alternatively, he could make a cameo appearance, given his character’s iconic status in the MCU.

The Russo brothers have been linked to several upcoming Marvel projects, including the Captain America 4 movie and the Thunderbolts film. If they are indeed involved with Doctor Doom, it would mark their third collaboration with Marvel Studios after Endgame and the upcoming Captain America sequel.

While there’s no official word on whether Downey Jr. has signed on to the project, fans of the actor and the MCU are eagerly awaiting any updates. After all, who wouldn’t want to see Tony Stark back in action?

The Doctor Doom movie is currently without a release date, but it’s expected to hit theaters in the near future. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
