Ryan Reynolds on Stunning ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Box Office: I Think It’s “the First 4-Quadrant, R-Rated Film”

In a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds reflected on the box office success of his 2016 film ‘Deadpool’ and its impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reynolds, who played the titular character in the film, praised the movie’s R-rating and said it allowed for a more authentic portrayal of the character.

“I think that the R-rating was crucial to the success of the film,” Reynolds explained. “It allowed us to get away with some really raunchy humor and some really graphic violence. It was like we were given permission to make a movie that was unapologetically itself, and I think that’s what resonated with audiences.”

Reynolds also credited the success of ‘Deadpool’ to its willingness to subvert traditional comic book movie tropes.

“I think what ‘Deadpool’ did really well was it took all the expectations of a traditional superhero movie and flipped them on their head,” Reynolds said. “It’s like, okay, we’re going to take this genre that everyone thinks they know and love, and then we’re going to turn it on its head and make it something entirely new and unexpected.

As for the box office performance of ‘Deadpool’, Reynolds noted that it exceeded expectations and paved the way for other R-rated comic book movies.

“I think that ‘Deadpool’ proved that you can make an R-rated comic book movie that’s successful,” Reynolds said. “It wasn’t just a one-off. It was like, okay, we’ve proven that this can work, now let’s see what else we can do with it.”

Reynolds also touched on the topic of ‘Wolverine’, another popular Marvel character.

“I think that ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Logan’ are two movies that really spoke to people,” Reynolds said. “They’re both R-rated, they’re both unapologetically themselves, and I think that’s what resonated with audiences.”

In conclusion, Ryan Reynolds emphasized the importance of taking risks in filmmaking and praised the box office success of ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Logan’.
