Deadpool & Wolverine review – Marvel’s achingly meta new sequel is going to be huge

In this achingly meta gagfest, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reunite as their respective alter egos, Deadpool and Wolverine. Director Shawn Levy brings a clever touch to the film, balancing the humor and action elements with ease.

The story sees the two anti-heroes team up to take down an evil mastermind (played by the always-welcome Morena Baccarin) who has created a time-traveling device capable of altering reality. As they navigate through different eras, they encounter familiar faces from their respective franchises, including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Storm (Halle Berry), and even Squirrel Girl (Alison Brie).

Reynolds and Jackman’s chemistry is undeniable, and their banter is some of the most entertaining moments in the film. The two actors playfully poke fun at each other and the Marvel universe as a whole, never taking themselves too seriously.

The action scenes are well-executed, with plenty of clever one-liners and slapstick humor to keep things light-hearted. The visuals are also impressive, particularly during the time-travel segments where the film’s effects come together in creative ways.

If there’s one area where the film falls short, it’s in its pacing. At over two hours long, some viewers may find themselves checking their watches as the story meanders through different timelines and plot twists.

Overall, Deadpool-Wolverine is a hilarious and self-aware Marvel mashup that will surely delight fans of both characters. With Reynolds and Jackman at the helm, it’s no surprise that this film is going to be huge.
