Thursday Cannon Fodder: Arsenal 1

Arsenal and Bournemouth shared the points in a thrilling 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium on Thursday night. The Gunners took an early lead through Eddie Nketiah’s goal, but Bournemouth responded with a stunning equalizer from Philip Billing just before halftime. Both teams had their chances to win it in the second half, but neither could find that decisive goal. Here are some thoughts from the match:

* Arsenal struggled to find any real rhythm throughout the game, relying on Nketiah’s early strike and a few fortunate breaks to keep themselves ahead. Once Bournemouth got level, the Gunners looked like they were going to drop points.
* But what was most impressive about this draw is that Mikel Arteta’s side never gave up. They kept pushing forward, creating chances and putting pressure on the Cherries’ defense. It’s a sign of growth for this young team that they can battle through adversity like that.
* The real story of the match, though, was Billing’s incredible equalizer. That was a goal for the ages – a perfectly weighted chip over Aaron Ramsdale and into the net from 40 yards out. I don’t think anyone could have predicted it would go in, but somehow Billing made it happen.
* Bournemouth were arguably the more threatening team after halftime, with Junior Stanislas and Ryan Christie causing all sorts of problems for Arsenal’s backline. They had to be content with just a point, though, as they couldn’t quite find that winning goal.
* Overall, this was a good point for both teams – especially for Bournemouth, who are still trying to get their season up and running after some tough early results. For Arsenal, it’s two points from six in the last three matches, which is nothing to be ashamed of.
